BBU Cell Selection Requirements

BBU does not simply pursue high capacity or high rate. Short-term power response, backup time, storage and circulation methods, temperature, space and system safety design must be confirmed in the same project conditions.

Data center server rack environment

Start with the BBU Duty Profile

In-server BBUs, rack-level backup power supplies, and large UPSs have different power, duration, space, and communication requirements. Before starting the project, it should be clear what loads the battery system needs to support when the mains or main power supply is abnormal, how long it will last, and how it will cooperate with the superior power system.

Six key inputs

  • Backup power and time:Continuous power, peak power, peak duration and target backup time.
  • Voltage range:System nominal voltage, allowable operating range and cut-off conditions.
  • Storage and circulation:Long-term standby, regular testing, daily cycle or mixed use.
  • Temperature and heat dissipation:Rack environment, maximum temperatures, airflow conditions, and thermal management methods.
  • Space and Maintenance:Module size, weight, interfaces, replaceability and monitoring needs.
  • Documentation and Verification:Applicable specifications, test conditions, certification boundaries and project verification plan.
Safety Cell is the direction of the product series, which does not mean that the entire system is absolutely safe. Cell selection is not a substitute for battery pack construction, BMS, thermal management, redundancy and system-level verification.

How to Shortlist Candidate Cells

When extremely short-term high-power response is required, you can compare the P series and applicable Safety Cell directions; when paying attention to capacity, safety and storage conditions at the same time, you should further evaluate P22S, P30S, P50S or other candidate models based on the complete power curve. The specific selection is subject to applicable specifications and project testing.
